Wendover Cricket Club has two grounds in the village, each with a pavilion and outdoor cricket nets. When they're not in use by the club, they're available to the wider community.
The Witchell is in the heart of Wendover, on the Witchell Meadow. It's the hub of our junior cricket and village cup, with the Witchell Pavilion, a non-turf pitch and two outdoor nets.
The Lionel-Abel Smith Ground on Tring Road is our newer ground on the edge of Wendover, home to the Seabrook Pavilion, three outdoor nets, a training ground and the main cricket ground.
Club cricket and other club-organised activities always take priority, so availability depends on our fixtures, training and social calendar.
Hiring our pavilions
Both pavilions are available for clubs and classes, meetings, away days and special events.
For weekday daytime bookings, contact our booking secretary Angela German at [email protected].
Either pavilion's bar can be added to your booking, staffed by the club.

The Seabrook Pavilion
Our new pavilion at the Lionel-Abel Smith Ground on Tring Road. The club room is bright and spacious, opening out on to two good-sized terraces, and seats 50-60 people inside. It has adaptable furniture, Wi-Fi throughout and a large TV screen you can connect to from a laptop, tablet or phone.
The servery and kitchen are there if you want them. The kitchen is a non-commercial kitchen, ideal for simple preparation such as teas, coffees and cricket teas. Professional caterers will usually need to prepare food elsewhere and bring it in.
There is level access into the pavilion, good toilet facilities and an accessible toilet.
Parking is private and reserved for people using the pavilion and grounds: there are 50 spaces, including 3 blue-badge spaces and 4 with EV charging points.
The Witchell Pavilion
Our pavilion on the Witchell Meadow is in the centre of the village and seats up to 50 people.
There is minor stepped access into the pavilion from the car park, including a ramp; alternative access is via the stepped access off the front patio.
There is a bar and an accessible toilet.
The car park is shared with other users of the Witchell, not reserved for the pavilion and cricket, and can get busy depending on the day and time.
Hiring our outdoor cricket nets
Witchell Nets
Two fully enclosed nets, rebuilt in 2025 with funding from the HS2 Community Fund. The club uses them regularly during the season, mainly on evenings and weekends. At other times they're free for the community to use and don't need booking - just turn up when they're not in use.
Lionel-Abel Smith Ground Nets
Three fully enclosed nets, mainly for club members. They need to be booked, especially when the ground isn't open - email [email protected].
Hiring our cricket pitches
To arrange a match on one of our pitches, email [email protected]. Note that availability is limited by the club's own fixtures and activities.
The Witchell
A non-turf pitch in the heart of the village.
The Lionel-Abel Smith Ground
The cricket ground is for club-organised cricket, except in special cases.
